The Waldo Canyon Fire has quickly changed our lives in the Colorado Springs and surrounding communities. Our beautiful mountains are burning quickly, over 2,500 acres burning and 0% contained. As of the press conference on 6/24/12 at 4pm, nearly 450 firefighters from various agencies are involved in firefighting, including those from surrounding states such as Montana, Wyoming and more. Garden of the Gods park has been closed, along with other tourist attractions like Glen Eyrie Castle and historic Manitou Springs has been evacuated. If you have reservations or travel planned to the Colorado Springs area, please call ahead to make sure the area you are visiting is open. Keep in mind that parts of Highway 24 have been closed, plus evacuations of nearly 11,000 people at this point. There are a total of 8 fires currently burning in Colorado, and this is only one of them. Other major Colorado fires like the High Park Fire and Springer Fire are causing a drain of resources and spreading firefighters thin. Your prayers are appreciated for the Colorado Springs community.
